We lived in The North for three years. My wife nursed Kenojuak’s husband and was present when passed away. A year later we attended a show at the local museum. An Ashevak painting was on display along with many other Inuit Artists’work. In fact, she was there in person. A unique process of choosing buyers saw my wife able to take the Ashevak painting for purchase. She went over to see Kenojuak and explained that she was the nurse with her
husband when he passed It was important that he did not die alone. She cried with my wife
and signed her painting. All of the above explains how we came to posses this beautiful and meaningful painting. Her work resonates with Inuit culture and meaning. It has a vibrancy like
no other.
