Rosalind Wise
From exquisite portraits of single blooms to her
Flower Cycle masterpiece, Rosalind Wise (British, b. 1949) takes inspiration from nature, painting scenes of gardens and meadows, ponds and paths on canvases typically four to five feet across. Her early work focused on small, singular bits of the natural world. These days, Wise says, her response “is to the colour, tone and movement found there. It is to the tip or balance between order and chaos, freedom or restraint, things separate yet mingling together, all part of the expressive whole.” A native of South Wales, Wise now lives in Gloucestershire, painting a reality that exists outside modern life’s constant consumerism. Her goal is to reconnect us with the beauty and magic of existence.
